A Step Further

Madinah Academy has come a long way in the past few months. We have revamped and upgraded the curriculum, hired experienced teachers and introduced leadership based frameworks. We are looking at evidence backed methodologies to further improve on the environment we are trying to emulate for MAM pupils.

We have identified a few key foundational structures that will help children’s development, learning, and success at school and in life. Parental involvement and family support has shown repeatedly as one of the key factors dictating a child’s learning, academic success and most importantly, becoming a responsible and empathetic adult.

Second, there is mounting evidence showing a positive impact of early morning physical exercise (PE) on pupils’ academic performance. Starting with the upcoming academic year, Madinah Academy will be implementing zero-hour PE. Students can be dropped off ~15-30 mins before the school start time. They will undergo a robust exercise program prior to formal instruction. We are aiming this to be free for all to be able to provide equal opportunities to all pupils.

And third, Social-Emotional learning, instilling a character ethic and Stephen Covey's 7-habits of highly effective people to guide kids through the maturity continuum, from dependence to independence to interdependence. Madinah Academy is partnering with Leader In Me. It is a leadership skills program, specifically designed for elementary and middle school children to teach them to take lead, be responsible, and help them develop mindsets, behaviors and skills to be effective lifelong leaders. Several studies have shown impressive improvements in academic performance and pupils’ engagement in school. Implementation of Leader In Me frameworks has also shown remarkable reduction in behavior issues both in early childhood and teenage years.

Successful implementation of these three foundational structures requires intricate planning and a lot of help. MAM will not be able to institute these changes effectively without a consistent and rigorous parent involvement and set-up. As the beginning of the upcoming school year nears, we would like to sit down with the  parents on strategies on how to achieve these goals!
